Samaya T. Rael

I see energy as intricate and exquisitely unique mandalas.

Actively drawing the Sacred Scribbles Tarot Deck (The Moon card)

My expressive nature began when I was still a baby. Dancing was my first love, and our home videos show that I started dancing before I could walk. As I got older, I would create magical worlds, I told stories, scribbled them onto paper and coloured the magical creatures to life. I was influenced by my mom, a talented artist in many mediums. I would often get frustrated that I couldn't draw as well as her and couldn't recreate what I saw in my mind. Eventually, I was so hard on myself that I stopped drawing.

My imagination remained extremely active. I continued to play in those magical worlds with my magical friends. I danced, acted, sang, and wrote. It wasn't until highschool that I began to draw again. It started as a way to keep myself awake in the classes I found boring. I would scribble and doodle in my workbooks. In my sophomore year, for reasons I won't get into here, I was grounded for 2 months. I had nothing to do except dive into my imagination and entertain myself. I spent hours in my room listening to music and scribbling the abstract visuals created from my mind into sketchbooks...

I didn't know until my early 20's that my brain works differently than most people. When I read, the words and pages fall away and I see the story. When I listen to music, abstract shapes and colours fill my mind. Numbers, letters and names have colours, and my mind is filled with maps of context. I learned how to meditate on the energy of a person, place, word, etc. and see their energy as an intricate and exquisitely unique mandala. Now, with a developed steady hand and more attuned eye for energies, I can bring what I see into physicality.
